EU Legislation

EU legislation on disability gravitates around two major instruments: The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted by the Council Decision 2010/48/EC of Novemberv 2009.

Beyond these instruments, known also as primary legislation, many other types of legal norms have been passed at the level of the European Union with regard to disability, which has been approached from many perspectives. These are, basically, the secondary legislation made available by the Council and the Commission to the Member States so as to be able to tackle the needs and rights of the disabled persons.

Moving even further, European Union proposes a comprehensive sphere of policies made available to the decision makers through strategic documents like: European Disability Strategy 2010-2020: A Renewed Commitment to a Barrier-Free Europe, its subsequent Actions Plans, recommendations, proposals and communications to the Member States.

Europeaan Centre for the Rights of Children with Disability provides for the interested persons a wide range of policy and legal documents and materials through its Information and Documentation Centre. A part of these documents may be downloaded from our website www.cedcd.ro/old, but for much longer or very technical documents you must contact our experts on EU Aquis at office@cedcd.ro/old.

They can provide you with the documents and materials you need and in case you need further clarifications on the EU Aquis on disability they can provide you with the necessary inputs.
